  • Registrations are due March 18, 2011.  Please complete and return registration form, even though there is no registration fee.  Registrations after this date and at the conference will still be accepted, but not guaranteed lunch or a copy of the proceedings.
  • Seminar Registration Fee – none
    The speakers’ expenses for the conference are paid from an endowment by Dr. Frank W. Jordan, Abilene, Kansas.  Dr. Jordan established this fund in 1983 to enhance continuing education for veterinary medical practitioners, faculty, and students.
  • Optional Catered Luncheon - $10.00
    If interested in lunch, please return the attached registration form, with payment, by March 18, 2010.  Call Kathleen at
    785-532-4528 if you need a lunch ticket after March 18.

Guest Speakers

Joni Scheftel, DVM, MPH, ACVPM
State Public Health Veterinarian, Minnesota Department of Health
Joni Scheftel graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine in 1982 and joined a mixed animal practice in Watertown, Minnesota. In 2001, she earned her MPH in Environmental Microbiology from the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health. Dr. Scheftel currently serves as State Public Health Veterinarian at the Minnesota Department of Health. She is responsible for zoonotic disease surveillance and zoonotic disease outbreak investigation, and serves as a liason between the Department of Health and Minnesota’s animal agriculture agencies. Dr. Scheftel has a special interest in veterinary infection control and occupational health. She currently serves as co-chair of the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarian’s Infection Control Committee, which developed the first standard precautions guidelines for veterinarians in clinical practice.

Jennifer Akers, DVM, MPH
Assistant Professor, K-State College of Veterinary Medicine
Dr.  Akers graduated from Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001.  She was in private practice until joining the faculty at Kansas State University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital in 2005, where she is an Assistant Clinical Professor in Small Animal General Medicine and Dentistry.  Dr. Akers graduated from Kansas State University with a Master of Public Health in December of 2009.

Bill Arck, M.S.
Director of Alcohol & Other Drug Education, K-State Counseling Services
Bill grew up in Wichita, Kansas and attended Bishop Carroll high school.  Drafted in 1971, Bill spent one year in Texas, two years as an Intelligence Analyst at the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C., and one year in Southeast Asia with the U.S. Air Force Security Service.  His undergraduate degree is in psychology, and his Master’s is in counseling, both from K-State.  For the past 26 years Bill has been the director of Alcohol and Other Drug Education Service at K-State Counseling Services.

Parking

Parking is available on the west side (off Denison Avenue) and on the east side (off Jardine Drive) of the Veterinary medical Complex. A parking permit is not required for weekend parking. Do not park in the client parking or reserved stalls as you may get ticketed.
