Conference Objectives

This conference on health and management of Llamas and Alpacas will provide instruction for all levels of Camelid management - owners, breeders, and veterinarians. Veterinarians and new owners as well as seasoned veterans will benefit from this state-of-the-art continuing education course that includes herd health, medicine, surgery, nutrition, and reproduction topics.

Conference Speakers

  • David Anderson, DVM, MS, DACVS
    Professor and Section Head, Agricultural Practices, K-State
    Dr. Anderson received his DVM from North Carolina State University. He then completed a 1-year internship in medicine and surgery at the University of Georgia and a 3-year residency at Kansas State University. Dr. Anderson became a board certified specialist in surgery in 1995. While at Kansas State University, he earned a MS degree in Clinical Sciences. After 11 years at Ohio State University as Head of Food Animal Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Anderson returned to K-State in 2006 as Professor and Section Head of Agricultural Practices.

  • Melanie Boileau, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVIM
    Assistant Professor, Food Animal Medicine and Surgery, Oklahoma State University
    Dr. Boileau received her DVM and completed an internship at Montreal University Veterinary College. She then completed a 3 year residency program in Food Animal Medicine at Oklahoma State University in 2004. She taught as an agricultural practices assistant professor at Kansas State University in 2004, than returned to Oklahoma State University in 2005 as an assistant professor in the Food Animal Medicine and Surgery department.

  • Maria Ferrer, DVM, MS, DACT
    Clinical Assistant Professor, Equine Theriogenology, K-State
    Dr. Ferrer received her Veterinary Degree from the University of Buenos Aires in 2000. In 2005, Maria completed her MS from Louisiana State. Dr. Ferrer became a Diplomate of the American Academy of Theriogenology in 2005 and joined the K-State faculty in August of 2006.

  • Meredyth Jones, DVM, MS, DACVIM
    Clinical Assistant Professor, Agricultural Practices, K-State
    Dr. Jones received her DVM from Oklahoma State University in 2002. She entered private practice at the Midway Veterinary Clinic in Brandenburg, Kentucky for one year. She then completed a residency in Large Animal Internal Medicin -emphasis Food Animal and received an MS degree in Veterinary Biomedical Sciences at Oklahoma State University in 2006. Dr. Jones joined the K State faculty in July of 2006.

  • Marco Margiocco, DMV, MS, DACVIM (Cardiology)
    Assistant Professor, Cardiology, K-State
    Dr. Margiocco received his DMV from the University of Pisa in Italy. He received his Masters degree of Science at Oregon State University. Most of his research is about the evaluation of advanced echocardiographic techniques (Deformation Imaging), applied cardiovascular pharmacotherapy and pharmacology.

  • Matt Miesner, DVM, MS, DACVIM
    Clinical Assistant Professor, Agricultural Practices, K-State
    Dr. Miesner received his DVM from Washington State University in 1999. He then practiced as an associate veterinarian in general private practice before beginning a residency in Food Animal Medicine and Surgery at Ohio State University. After his residency Dr. Miesner remained at OSU as a clinical instructor and a year later was appointed as an assistant professor and also received his MS degree. Dr. Miesner joined the K-State faculty in August of 2006.

Parking

A parking permit IS required to park on campus Monday- Friday. An electronic permit will be emailed to registrants the week before the conference.
